Some of My Favorite Games Settlers of Catan (with Cities and Knights), Stone Age and Purto Rico would have to be in my top three board games, but there are dozens of other games that I love to play on a regular basis.

Why I Love Board Games and Card Games I would say hands down is the interaction you have with other fellow players when playing a table top game. With video games, most of the time it is you and the video screen. Even in the case of MMO type games, you are still only interacting with what you see on your screen. Spending time with family or friends is what makes playing games fun.

I also have to include the importance of gaming for young kids. Being a grandfather of two preteen girls, not only is it a blast to spend time and play games with them, it also is a great way to trick young minds into learning. With just about any game out there, you have to use reading and math skills not to mention learning how to use logic and reasoning to help oneself to win the game.

Advice I help run a game convention in the SF Bay Area and I get asked this a lot. The basic version is what started the whole renaissance of board gaming again. A simple to teach tile laying game that is almost satisfying just to play the game to see what the board looks like at the end of the game.
