In our house we love to play games: video games, card games, board games, strategy games, and any kind of "fun in a box" that lets us spend time together testing our skills or just having fun. "In a Pickle" is a lot of fun and involves a lot of creative thinking. "In a Pickle" is produced by the company Gamewright, which is known for it's inexpensive fast paced little games. We have purchased other Gamewright games in the past and have not been disappointed. "In a Pickle" comes in a bright red box with a pickle jar and a lot of little angular cartoon images (a baby, a shopping cats, a taxi, a rug) on the front. On the pickle in the jar we are told that "In a Pickle" is the "What's in a Word Game" I love word games so I was eager to try "In a Pickle". On the back we are told that "In a Pickle" is appropriate for people aged ten and up, should take about 20 to 30 minutes to play, and can be played by 2 to 6 people. Very appealing if you have a small family with older children and would like to squeeze a little fun into a busy schedule. Also there are pickles involved somehow, so what's not to like? I became intrigued with this subject several years ago during my quest for the fragrance called Ines de la Fressange, who was my all time favorite model and onetime Karl Lagerfeld/Chanel muse whose exquisite good taste I admired; she was the face for their Coco fragrance back in the day and I thought that any perfume with her name on it stood an excellent chance of being good. I discovered that there were two of them, and both were already discontinued by the time my search commenced. The first was released in 1999 and the second in 2004. I had never seen either of them in a store. Most of the photos on the discounter sites were of a really pretty bottle with a floral motif half encased in metal and half in frosted glass. As it turned out, that was the bottle for the 2004 release. The 1999 fragrance comes in a simple, unadorned heavy glass bottle that reminds me a little of L signature bottles. The one I ended up ordering was that one, and I really loved it, and I have since repurchased it. It is a perfect summer scent composed of fresh florals including whit rose and a zesty touch of spicy carnation. I kept looking for the other one, but all the descriptions were for the 1999 scent even though the photo was often of the 2004 bottle! Finally a fellow perfume lover sent me a small decant of the later scent, which was very nice and most definitely different, a sweet and feminine rose. However, as it ended up I liked the first one much better anyway, despite the lure of the other pretty bottle. You can judge a book, or a perfume, by its cover.

My other quest, recently successful, was to find the elusive Pan Ame by Jean Patou. My mission was (and still is) to try every perfume the house of Patou had ever done, but I had never seen it even in my local perfume boutique that carries everything by Patou, and it must have come and gone so quickly that I wondered if it even made it to our shores. Whenever I located a site that had it they were always out of stock. Searches for a list of notes were in vain; not even one description seemed to exist online. Its bottle is nearly identical to that of 1992 Sublime, so I figured it had come out sometime after that one, which is a great favorite of mine. As it turned out, it was an early creation of Patou house perfumer Jean Michel Duriez, who succeeded Jean Kerl the nose behind Sublime, in 1997, and Pan Ame was released in 2001.

I finally located a miniature collectible of Pan Ame at Beauty Encounter, and in a few days it was mine. It was the Eau de Toilette, and very light and soft. It is summery and fresh, though I was hoping it would last longer on my skin. I detected a subtle fruity note of pear, and possibly linden flower. The full article was blocked by a firewall so I got no further, but the mystery was solved. I wish I could find this in a stronger concentration, because I really like it. The EDT will do for summer, but it would be nice to have it in Parfum; I wonder if it ever came in that strength? I may never know. I found another company that carries the full size bottles (Perfume Outlet) for a very low price, so it may be a future purchase.

What most people don't realize about these Android applications is that they are installed directly into the Android OS and not on your phones memory card like most Android applications. What this means is when you go to remove these pre installed Android applications you will be greeted with a permission denied error message. Stopping and Hiding Pre Installed Android ApplicationsOne option you have as an Android smartphone user is to stop and hide any Android applications you do not use and that cannot be removed without rooting your Android phone. Find a solid source, make sure you understand the risks, be sure you understand the directions to the letter and cross your fingers. Like I said above the biggest risk involved in rooting your Android smartphone is "bricking" it. What this essentially means is you will have a useless phone that no longer works and will have to be replaced.

Being a grandfather of two preteen girls, not only is it a blast to spend time and play games with them, it also is a great way to trick young minds into learning. With just about any game out there, you have to use reading and math skills not to mention learning how to use logic and reasoning to help oneself to win the game.

Advice I help run a game convention in the SF Bay Area and I get asked this a lot. The basic version is what started the whole renaissance of board gaming again. A simple to teach tile laying game that is almost satisfying just to play the game to see what the board looks like at the end of the game.

Not all memory issues mean that you're heading down the road to dementia. Some things that look like severe memory loss can be treated with simple solutions. Your brain is capable of making new cells at any age.

Everyone has a little bit of forgetfulness that is considered normal. Forgetting where you left things, forgetting the name of someone you don't know well, forgetting the details of a book or movie you just saw, or getting easily distracted are all normal.

If you begin to forget your son's name, or miss your weekly card game, your memory loss is more significant and may indicate a condition called "mild cognitive impairment" or MCI. The hallmarks of MCI are having trouble remembering something you just did or pulling up information you've known for a long time. Some people who develop MCI go on to have Alzheimers but it isn't necessarily a precursor to it.

When memory loss becomes so severe that it interrupts your work, hobbies, social activities, and family relationships, you may be experiencing the early signs of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. But you may also have a physiologic imbalance that is causing your symptoms.

Environmental toxins, heavy metals, medications, alcohol and drug abuse, depression, vitamin deficiencies, and hormone problems can all contribute to severe memory loss.

The list of medications that affect memory includes, pain killers, anti anxiety medications, antidepressants, seizure medications, and even some antibiotics like Cipro, Flagyl, and Keflex. Thyroid hormone, acid blockers, antipsychotics, and allergy medications also affect memory. With this long list of things that can have an affect on your memory, you can see that retaining your memory is a delicate process. As we age, we have less leeway with everything. We have less reserves of energy, and less room to muddle with our physiology.

In light of that, everything we do can affect our ability to remember in both positive and negative ways. If you only eat once a day and you have only highly processed foods, it will cause you to forget everything. But if you eat a healthy balanced diet with protein at each meal and keep your blood sugar balanced throughout the day, your brain will be happy to help you find the name of your neighbor. Remember that the brain is fueled by glucose sugar. That means it needs a steady supply all day to keep it functioning well. It does not mean that you should eat candy bars all day however.

American diets are deficient in Vitamin D and omega fatty acids, both of which are key elements to help our brains function at their best. You can have your vitamin D levels checked at your doctors office. Omega fatty acids are available in capsules in the form of fish oil, flax oil or combinations. You can also get them in your diet by eating enough of high quality oils such as olive oil, other nut oils, nuts.

We have ways of measuring hormones and brain chemicals, which can help us understand what is the cause of a particular memory problem. Maximizing your hormones and brain chemistry will definitely help support your brain function. There are also several interesting supplements to help with memory loss. Low dose lithium has been shown to help support memory and brain function in people who take it.

And lastly, if you exercise your brain it's just like exercising your body, it tends to work better when you do. Puzzles and games like scrabble, crosswords, sudoko, and reading books that aren't too easy to understand keeps your mind active and engaged. In order to play the game Risk, begin by setting up. Name a banker. Players choose a color. The number of players determines the number of armies. Remove the jokers from the country card packs. Shuffle the cards. Deal them face down. Players may not get an equal number.

Each player places an army in each of their countries, after looking at their own cards. The banker collects all of the, replaces the jokers, and shuffles the deck. Allow each player to roll the dice to see who goes first. High scorer goes first. Take turns deploying reinforcements.

Give the red attacking dice to the first player. Put the blue dice on top of the cards. In order to determine the number of reinforcements, count the number of territories, divide by three, add bonuses for entire continents that are held by a single player, and add bonuses for Risk cards. The attackers may choose not to attack. It isnt mandatory. The attacker must name the territory. The number of dice you use is dependent on the number of armies in a territory. Defenders win, whenever there is a tie. The attacker can call off the attack, but the defender must fight until death or the attacker withdraws. When the attacker wins a territory, he/she gets an attack card.

Winning a continent allows you to obtain reinforcements. Bonuses are awarded for Risk cards. Joker cards may be substituted for any card. A player can demand to know the number of risk cards held by other players, and they must be told. Only under special circumstances are you able to hold more than 5 risk cards in your hand. To get rid of risk cards, you must announce at the beginning of your hand. When all of the other players are eliminated, then the game is over.
